You can help build a better future for dermatology patients around the world! We are now accepting applications from our membership representatives who are interested in joining IADPO’s Board of Directors. Two vacant positions are being filled this fall.

YOUR ROLE AS A BOARD MEMBER

The role of IADPO’s Board Directors is to help advance the development of IADPO and the GlobalSkin movement. They provide strategic direction and oversight as we work to improve the lives of those affected by dermatological disorders around the world through research, advocacy and support. This includes playing a key role in building a stronger voice for skin patients through initiatives such as IADPO’s biennial conference for patient leaders, the Global Research on the Impact of Dermatological Diseases (GRIDD) project, and participation in global meetings.

 

DESIRED SKILLS AND BACKGROUND

We are seeking member representatives who:

  • Demonstrate a passion for representing skin patients and/or skin patient groups;
  • Understand a board’s oversight role;
  • Have previous experience sitting on or working with a board, including a solid understanding of board governance;
  • Represent patients in North America, South America, Middle East, Asia or Africa.

BOARD REQUIREMENTS

We foster diversity on our board with no more than two members from any continent and disease area. For 2018, we are seeking two new board members with the maximum allowable number of board seats by geographic region and disease area shown in the table below:

To develop and maintain active Board involvement and its strong advocacy role, Board members are invited to serve a term of three years, being up for election in their third year. Directors shall be limited to a maximum of 5 consecutive terms.

All Board members should adhere to these general duties and responsibilities:

  • Understand and demonstrate a commitment to the organization’s mission and programs.
  • Keep up to date with issues and trends that affect the organization.
  • Attend quarterly meetings via web conferencing.
  • Prepare to contribute skills and knowledge by reading agendas, minutes, reports and other required meeting documentation and by participating actively in meetings and committee work.
  • Make inquiries when clarification or more information is needed.
  • Understand and monitor the organization’s financial affairs.
  • Avoid any potential conflicts of interest.
  • Understand and maintain confidentiality.
  • Ensure the organization is complying with all legal and regulatory requirements.
