Urgent: Get involved before the GRIDD Study ends on Dec. 31

With just a little over two weeks remaining before the conclusion of the GRIDD Study, we remind GlobalSkin members and our wider dermatology network that spreading the word in this final stretch is crucial. Please encourage people with skin conditions to participate in the GRIDD Study to ensure sufficient representation of diverse geographical regions and disease areas in the global GRIDD data.

If you know dermatology patients in your network that are eligible to take part, please direct them to the survey during these last days. Use our translated social media cards with embedded QR code on your channels!

Current Progress

Based on our latest report, we've seen participation from 3374 individuals in 94 countries and 99 different disease areas. A big thank you to Members who continue to actively share the GRIDD Study with their patient communities. To see where your region & disease area stand, click the button below.

Uniting to Change Perceptions

It’s been an exciting and productive year for the World Skin Health Coalition. Since its establishment in May 2022, this multi-stakeholder group has grown to now include 15 patient associations, 6 medical and research organizations and 6 industry partners. By bringing together these 27 diverse organizations into one coalition means we can truly harness their collective power, pooling resources, knowledge, skills and experience for a common goal: raising awareness about the global impact of dermatological diseases/conditions and increasing health policy prioritization.

In March 2024, the Coalition will launch a worldwide campaign to increase global awareness about the challenges experienced by millions of people around the world are facing every day because of their skin diseases and conditions. GlobalSkin Members along with the wider dermatology network will be invited to participate in and promote this global awareness campaign that will seek signatories to an open letter calling for policy makers to prioritize access to care and affordable treatment options for patients.

A webinar will be held in February about the campaign, explaining how Partners and their networks can participate and what resources will be available to promote the campaign.  Stay tuned for more details.

WHO Resolution on Addressing the Burden of Skin Diseases

GlobalSkin joined forces with the ILDS, the International Foundation on Dermatology, NGO Network for Skin Neglected Tropical Diseases Network (NNN) and the Anesvad Foundation in June 2023 with the objective of developing an All-Skin Diseases WHO Resolution. This resolution would call for dedicated health investment to expand expertise, particularly among primary health care workers, enabling them to diagnose and support those living with skin diseases.

In this short time frame and with encouragement from the WHO’s Department of Neglected Tropical Diseases and the support of three Member States (Ivory Coast, Togo and Mali) a request was submitted for consideration of the resolution to be included on the agenda of the World Health Assembly (WHA) in 2024. Unfortunately, the request was not accepted this time.

While this was disappointing news, the group is not discouraged and work has already begun to submit another request in September 2024 for inclusion on the agenda of the WHA in 2025.

The experience to date has been a valuable learning in how to navigate the complex processes and systems of WHO.  With the longer timeframe, we are confident we will achieve our goal, and look forward to engaging GlobalSkin Members and our larger network in these efforts.

GlobalSkin will hold a webinar for our Members early in 2024 to provide more details about this exciting opportunity. Stay tuned for more details.

Meeting with EU Commissioner on Health

On October 4, GlobalSkin seized an exciting opportunity to meet with Stella Kyriakides, the EU Commissioner for Health. The online meeting served as a platform for us to brief the Commissioner on challenges faced by dermatology patients in Europe and pinpoint areas where the European Commission could enhance efforts to address these issues more effectively. Additionally, the meeting allowed GlobalSkin to highlight patient concerns and collaborate with the European Commission to strategize improvements. Commissioner Kyriakides expressed optimism, stating that this would be the first of her meetings with us and the next one should be in person.

World Atopic Eczema Day 2023 Report

On September 14, 2023, the sixth annual World Atopic Eczema Day (WAED) took place. This year's WAED campaign centered around addressing the psychosocial challenges experienced by children and youth living with Atopic Eczema. Through the hashtag #IfYouOnlyKnew, the campaign aimed to give voice to the struggles faced by these young individuals, shedding light on the mental health challenges associated with the condition. Complementing the campaign, the GlobalSkin World Atopic Eczema Day Fund, now in its fifth year, provided support to 20 patient organizations across 15 countries and 4 regions, enabling them to organize events and activities in observance of World Atopic Eczema Day.
