About
The Anti Vitiligo Foundation Rwanda is one of few dermatology organizations in Rwanda, striving to restore the hope of Vitiligo patients across the country. The organization focuses on building strong relationships with its patient members and other people involved in the healthcare system including the Ministry of Health, Rwanda Biomedical Center (RBC), and dermatological clinics and Hospitals.
Impact Fund Project
This year our Impact Fund Project focused on awareness programs through communications and marketing activities for the Rwandan community, especially educating patients on the skin condition called Vitiligo.
Some of the project activities included: Involving local media agencies (radio programming and online newspapers) to help spread awareness and information to reach the population. Printed materials such as brochures, banners, flyers, t-shirts, and other related marketing materials helped in conducting smooth running awareness programs.
With the help of the fund, we were also able to create a new website for the organization to keep and avail all information related to vitiligo.
The Biggest Success of the Project in Our Patient Community
One of the major successes of the project was seeing testimonies from patients who have started to accept their skin conditions and believed in themselves despite having vitiligo. They began accepting that they should not be defined by their skin disease.
Another big impact of the project was reaching a larger audience. Much of the population was not even aware that vitiligo exists in Rwanda. The more people come to know about vitiligo the more the stigma gets reduced - and that's the key to success for us.
