On October 24, 2023, the European Academy of Dermatology and Venereology (EADV) launched a Call to Action on Chronic Inflammatory Skin Diseases. GlobalSkin together with 23 organizations, is a signatory of this important initiative. Through GlobalSkin CEO Jennifer Austin, who is an EADV Advocacy Task Force Ambassador, we brought the important patient voice to the development of the call to action. This collective Call to Action appeals to the European Union, Member States, and stakeholder organizations, urging them to commit to driving positive change in the field of chronic inflammatory skin diseases across various priority areas including (hover cursor on each title for more information): Elevating public awareness and diminishing the stigma associated with skin diseases Ensuring prompt and equitable access to high-quality treatment and care Supporting the development of advanced therapies and technologies Addressing the economic impact on both individuals and society Championing an ecologically sustainable future for dermatology The launch of the Call to Action coincided with the "The Burden of Skin Disease in Europe” event in Brussels that was co-hosted by the EADV Advocacy Task Force and Members of the European Parliament (MEPs), including Istvan Ujhelyi (S&D, Hungary), Radka Maxova (S&D, Czech Republic), Tomislav Sokol (EPP, Croatia), and Maria Spyraki (EPP, Greece). GlobalSkin was represented at the event by Board Director David McMahon, Irish Skin Foundation and Yalchin Mammadov, GlobalSkin Senior Advisor, Europe. It stressed the importance of a multi-stakeholder approach involving the healthcare community to continue raising awareness and addressing the current regulatory and research gaps at the EU level, ultimately enhancing the quality of life for patients living with skin diseases.
