Letter from the Board President – September 2020

Dear GlobalSkin Members,

As the world continues to navigate the COVID-19 pandemic, our organization’s commitment to our 172 Member patient organizations, remains unwavering. While it will be some time before we can see one another in-person, the GlobalSkin Team remains focused on providing support, innovative programming, and ground-breaking research for all our Members.

As an IADPO (GlobalSkin) Member, your organization benefits from access to resources, our conferences, online learning and more. And in exchange, we ask that you participate as much as possible, including attendance at our one-hour online Annual General Meeting (AGM). So as Board President, I would like to remind all Members and partners to be sure to attend our AGM taking place on September 30, 2020, at 11:00 am EST / 17:00 CET.

The AGM will report on GlobalSkin initiatives and challenges over the last year as well as look ahead to 2021. There will be a few items you will be asked to vote on. The Board of Directors election will also be launched immediately following the AGM. GlobalSkin Members will have the opportunity to elect two (2) new Directors to the IADPO Board. Please confirm you will be attending the Annual General Meeting here.

Another piece of exciting news for the global dermatology community is that the Global Research on the Impact of Dermatological Diseases (GRIDD) project is entering Phase 3! In this important phase of the project, researchers are calling on dermatology patients representing all diseases to participate in a Patient Data Verification Delphi. A Delphi is a process that will help us be certain that the issues our researchers have collected thus far from patients globally are truly accurate and are being communicated in a way that makes sense to patients.

We are looking for 2000 people to take part in the Delphi. The information collected during this phase is critical in the development of the final questionnaire that will be used in Phase 4 of GRIDD in 2021. More information will be coming directly to you in early-October about the Patient Data Verification Delphi and how you and your patient communities can take part!

As the GlobalSkin Community continues to grow, so does the GlobalSkin staff. Please give a warm welcome to two new members of the team:

  • Alexandra Rodionova, who is usually called Lexy, recently joined GlobalSkin as Digital Communications Manager. Lexy’s personal experience with eczema and psoriasis has given her insight, compassion and a drive to work towards improving the lives of those affected by dermatological conditions worldwide.

  • Yalchin Mammadov, Senior Advisor, EuropaDERM started his new role with GlobalSkin on September 14th. Yalchin has extensive knowledge of the European Union (EU) affairs, as he has been involved in numerous project implementation and advocacy activities at the European level. He will focus on building a cohesive and collaborative European community of dermatology patient organizations and establishing a pan-European advocacy program that both focus on the European Medicines Agency and supports in-country patient organization outreach.

I look forward to seeing you all virtually at the AGM later this month.

Warm regards,
Simmie Smith
