Cicatricial Alopecia Research Foundation (CARF)
For their GlobalSkin Member Impact Fund project, CARF hosted a six-part live, interactive webinar series called, “2021 Mane Event Webinar Series” that aimed to address the medical and psychosocial issues associated with scarring alopecia. These webinars featured leading faculty, many of whom are members of CARF’s Medical & Scientific Advisory Board. Other experts were also invited to lecture and answer questions on the following six specific topics :
- COVID-19 Vaccines & Autoimmune Hair Loss Conditions
- Allergens, Sunscreens and Summer Tips
- Mental Health & Wellness
- CCCA, LPP, FFA, and other types
- Camouflaging, Beauty Products & Services
- Research and Scarring Alopecia.
The webinars in the Mane Event Series addressed timely and relevant areas of interest and concern for CARF’s membership. In total there were nearly 300 registrations to the webinar series! The patients received emotional support, education on their scarring hair loss, and resources for living with their disease. In a world where there are limited educational options for scarring hair loss patients and the physicians treating the diseases, CARF provided valuable and important information to patients with the support of the GlobalSkin Member Impact Fund. CARF is actively working to introduce additional support and educational options to this underserved population.
After the webinar series, CARF was able to provide access to the recording post-event, for patients who are not able to retain or are overwhelmed by the information they hear during the live webinar. Through the 2021 Mane Event Webinar Series, CARF was able to engage and interact with a new group of patients who wouldn't necessarily attend an in-person conference.
