Letter from the Board President – March 2023

Dear GlobalSkin Members,

We are off to a great start for 2023 as we begin to implement GlobalSkin’s new five-year strategic plan. I am excited that we have this new roadmap in place and feel confident that it will lead us to continued growth, maturity, and success over the coming five years. This Plan will significantly contribute bring to our vision of creating a world where people with dermatological conditions are healthy and fulfilled.

GlobalSkin exists to:

  • Elevate the voice of the global dermatology patient community
  • Champion the common interests of people affected by dermatological conditions globally
  • Unite global dermatology stakeholders to bring about transformative change for patients

To amplify your voice, GlobalSkin is representing you at more in-person events in 2023. GlobalSkin sent a small delegation to the American Academy of Dermatology Annual Meeting in March in New Orleans. Opportunities at the AAD included a presentation on the GRIDD project to the AAD’s Performance Measures Committee and at the Coalition of Skin Diseases (CSD) AGM, meetings with Industry partners and hosting a GlobalSkin reception alongside member organization the Coalition of Skin Diseases.

GlobalSkin CEO, Jennifer Austin, will attend the World Health Organization’s first-ever Skin Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTD) meeting in Geneva in March, where we will have a poster on GRIDD and a live presentation on the benefits of collaborating with patient organizations. She will attend meetings organized by the International League of Dermatological Societies (ILDS) with the WHO.

To ensure a strong and representative global voice for people affected by dermatological diseases, GlobalSkin has worked with its network of patient organizations worldwide in the development of the new Patient-Reported Impact of Dermatological Diseases (PRIDD) measure. We continue to prepare for the launch of the Global Research on the Impact of Dermatological Diseases (GRIDD) study and using this new patient-perspective measure. We will be launching the study in 17 languages in June with your help, and we plan to engage 10,000 dermatology patients from all WHO regions representing as many dermatological diseases as possible.

One way to change the way the world perceives dermatological conditions is by coming together in Brussels in June at ELEVATE 2023, GlobalSkin’s conference exclusively for Members. ELEVATE 2023 will focus on strengthening connections across world regions and disease areas. You can expect to be inspired by experts in the field of dermatology, research and advocacy. Capacity-building workshops with a cross-section of topics will help you broaden your organization’s capabilities. Plan to meet industry representatives and receive updates on the latest advocacy issues facing your patients. Registration is open and travel funding is available, but seats are filling up fast. Please register by March 31 at: https://globalskin.org/conference.

I look forward to seeing you at the GlobalSkin conference were together we will Elevate the global dermatology patient voice!

Gratefully,

Marc Yale

GlobalSkin Board President
