The prevalence of skin cancers continues to increase around the world, despite efforts toward the earlier detection and prevention of skin cancer. By empowering patient organizations to lead skin cancer awareness and prevention projects, together we can make an impact in changing the lives of those affected.
Many GlobalSkin Members directly support patients with skin cancer by providing connection, support, encouragement, along with educational resources. This additional category of the GlobalSkin Member Impact Fund will further support these activities.
Importance of Skin Cancer Prevention and Awareness
Skin cancer is largely preventable, and if caught early, it's usually curable. Awareness is key to supporting communities in understanding the importance of prevention. Knowledge can lead to action, and through this Skin Cancer Awareness funding opportunity, we provide patient organizations the resources to act.
We invite Full and Associate Member organizations, to apply for additional funding through the Member Impact Fund for projects raising awareness about all skin cancers, being inclusive of non-melanoma.
Resources
To assist with Member projects, GlobalSkin has compiled resources from Euromelanoma that contain information about the different types of skin cancer, risks, causes, and prevention. All tools are downloadable for your use.
We would like to thank Euromelanoma for granting us permission to use their resources and information in the creation of this webpage.

Project examples to support skin cancer awareness:
Event Planning, Advocacy, Marketing
- Hosting information-based events, either virtual or in-person, that advocate for care and treatment of skin cancer. Examples of activities that could be funded include presentations at a conference, webinars, ask-the-expert sessions, e-learning opportunities, and town hall events. Funds can be used to pay for online meeting/presentation platforms or for in-person event expenses.
- The development and/or purchase of marketing activities and materials that raise awareness of skin cancer and the organization’s initiatives. Examples of marketing materials that could be funded include social media ads (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Google etc.), traditional media advertising, graphic design, and printed materials such as flyers or brochures, or website content creation.
Research
- Research activities that directly support the well-being of patient communities and fight against the psychosocial and health challenges faced by skin cancer patients.
- Research or research-related activities that support knowledge translation in the scientific literature and community on skin cancer.
Education and Communications
- Projects that are focused on developing educational tools or materials to educate the community on skin cancer. For example, this could include developing toolkits/web content or a resource guide about:
- The causes of skin cancer, the preventative measures, or the importance of diagnostic testing.
- The importance of participating in clinical trials and research for skin cancer.
- How this disease uniquely affects affected individuals in a community and/or the barriers the skin cancer patient population faces in seeking care and treatment.
